The short version: Jitter doesn't collect, store or share any personal information. The app works entirely on your Mac and only goes online to check this website for updates. This website has no cookies, no analytics and no trackers.
This policy explains how the Jitter app for macOS (the “App”) and the website you're reading (the “Site”) handle information. Jitter is made by Aditya Kar (“we”, “us”). If anything here is unclear, email adityakar1998@gmail.com.
The App
What we collect
Nothing. The App has:
- no accounts or sign-in;
- no analytics, telemetry, usage statistics or crash reporting;
- no advertising and no advertising identifiers;
- no network access of its own. It runs in the macOS App Sandbox without permission to make network connections; only its separate updater does (see “Update checks” below).
What stays on your Mac
To work, the App keeps a small amount of information on your Mac. None of it is ever sent to us or anyone else:
- Your settings: which avatar you chose, where on screen it appears, and whether you've seen the welcome tour. These are stored in the App's standard macOS preferences.
- Avatars you import: when you import a sprite sheet, the App saves the resulting images and the name you give the avatar in its own folder on your Mac. Removing the avatar in the App deletes them.
Files you choose
The App can only read a file when you pick it yourself in the Import Sprite Sheet window, and it only reads the image you picked. It can't see your other files.
What macOS can see
While the App keeps your Mac awake, it holds a standard macOS power
assertion with a short description such as “Mr. Bean is keeping your
Mac awake”. macOS shows this to you in tools like
pmset -g assertions. It stays on your Mac.
Update checks
The App uses Sparkle, an open-source updater, to stay up to date. About every two weeks, and whenever you choose Check for Updates…, it downloads a short list of available versions from the Site. If a newer version is available, it asks before downloading and installing it from GitHub, where Jitter's releases are hosted.
These requests carry only what any download does: your IP address and a user agent with the App's and Sparkle's version numbers. Sparkle's optional system profile is turned off, so nothing else about you or your Mac is sent. GitHub, which hosts both the Site and the releases, may log the requests as described under “Server logs” below.
Deleting your data
Quit Jitter and move it to the Trash. To also remove your settings and
imported avatars, open
~/Library/Containers/ in Finder and move the folder named
Jitter to the Trash.
The Site
- No cookies, analytics or trackers. The Site doesn't set cookies or run analytics scripts.
- No third-party requests. Fonts, images and scripts are served from the Site itself, so visiting doesn't send your information to font or analytics providers. The one exception is a request to GitHub's public API for the number of times Jitter has been downloaded, which the Site shows next to the download buttons. GitHub sees your IP address, as with any request.
- Server logs. Like almost every website, the company hosting the Site may automatically record basic technical information about each request, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. These logs are used to deliver the Site and keep it secure, and are handled under the hosting provider's own policies. We don't use them to identify you.
- Downloads. When you download Jitter, the file is served by GitHub, which may log the download in the same way and counts it toward the total shown on the Site.
If you email us
If you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use it only to reply to you, don't add you to any mailing list, and don't share it. You can ask us to delete our correspondence with you at any time.
Children
Jitter doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 (or the equivalent age where you live).
Your rights
Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act give you rights to access, correct or delete personal information about you. Because the App collects none and the Site keeps none beyond the hosting logs described above, there is usually nothing for us to provide. If you have a question or request, email us and we'll answer it.
Changes to this policy
If the App or the Site starts handling information differently, we'll update this policy and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
